Cybersecurity isn’t just a buzzword, but a critical concept for the success of any CSO, activist, and for the safety of a team. The security of information (both online and off) is a challenge that requires focus, investment and vigilance.  Check our recorded webinar on Cybersecurity for Civil Society Organisations  with Varoon Bashyakarla. Varoon underlines why cybersecurity is an important matter for civil society organisations and activists, reviews some of the common threats and emerging risks, and most importantly, offers guidance on how to mitigate for these risks and make devices more secure.

Varoon Bashyakarla is a data scientist and statistician who worked with Tactical Tech for several years as part of the Influence Industry project. He started his career working as a data scientist in Silicon Valley. His past statistical undertakings led him to a variety of domains: journalism, public health, public safety, sports, finance, and art. Varoon is pursuing a Master’s degree in Information & Cybersecurity from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his Bachelor’s degree at Yale University, where he double majored in Statistics and Economics. Today, he splits his time between public-interest technology groups and private sector companies. He aims to help bridge these two spheres to foster privacy and security-preserving technologies that respect democratic ideals.
